Christmas movers need to act now

But be sure to tell Santa to avoid disappointment

Christmas is not far away. Preparations for family get-togethers, the usual round of parties and, of course, presents and festive food, are all in hand. On top of all this a surprising number of people choose to move over the Christmas period.

Darren Bundock, managing director of Atlantic International Movers explained: “You would think that everyone would avoid moving over Christmas, but we find its one of our busiest periods. We will be moving people right up until Christmas Eve, with the majority of these being out of storage. There are also a surprising number of moves overseas between Christmas and the New Year.”

He adds: “To avoid disappointment it is a good idea to arrange a home survey of goods to be moved and obtain quotations for a move as soon as you market your property. And when you have a good idea of the moving date, discuss this as early as possible with the mover of preference to avoid disappointment.”

As well as removers, those involved at the end of the moving chain like carpet fitters and solicitors are also hectic in December especially the last two weeks pre Christmas.

Prior to moving into a new property it may be necessary to place household belongings over the Christmas period or for longer into storage. If this is the case, it is recommended to look around any prospective storage company’s storage premises for assurance that it will match expectations. This means well-ordered, maintained and secure premises, and not someone’s barn or dilapidated warehouse.

Additionally, the storage company should provide facilities with 24 hour security and stringent fire control with a strict no smoking policy. Furthermore, a reputable company will provide features to protect various special items from possible storage risks, such as purpose-built racks or specially designed storage containers for soft furnishings, upholstered furniture and other delicate objects, which if incorrectly stored are prone to pressure damage.  Separate facilities for storing cars and other large heavy items may also be provided.

Darren Bundock adds: “Planning well ahead of the moving date is time well spent as it will help ensure a stress free move, as much as possible avoiding the last minute hassles as everyone else seems to go into holiday mood, and you can also enjoy good cheer over Christmas!”
