How will my household furniture and personal belongings be transported overseas?

Primarily, for deep sea destinations such, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Hong Kong and USA, your belongings will be shipped by Atlantic International Movers in large metal shipping containers. Predominantly, there are two sizes of container available for shipping your belongings, these being 20ft and 40ft in length, which are carried to their destination on container ships.

If the volume of your household furniture and personal belongings justify utilising a whole container, this is commonly known within the trade as an “FCL Shipment”. This method of shipment offers the security and peace of mind of knowing that the container is loaded and sealed at your UK residence, prior to being transferred directly to the port of departure to meet the next available sailing. In most countries, your container can be delivered directly to your new residence subject to customs and agricultural clearances.

If the volume of your shipment does not justify the cost of exclusively utilising a container, Atlantic International Movers have the solution. We offer a part load groupage service, which means your shipment is allocated space within a shipping container, sectioned off and then the remaining space within the container is loaded with the belongings of other customers, who are going to the same destination. The obvious benefit to the customer, is that they are only paying for the part of the container for which they use, while retaining the security of container movement. This method of shipment may be used to forward anything from one carton to half a household, and because of the large volume Atlantic International Movers ships this way, container loading generally takes place within ten days of collection. This means that our part load shared container service is one of the quickest within the international moving industry.

Atlantic International Moves can also forward your household furniture and belongings by Air to any destination worldwide. Customers usually request for their belongings to be forwarded by air for two reasons. Firstly, they require certain items such as work tools and materials to arrive ahead of their sea freight shipment, and secondly, when they have small shipments, which they require at their destination quickly. The majority of air freight shipments take between 7 and 10 days to arrive at their destination, from collection.

What happens when my household furniture and personal belongings arrive at their destination?

Prior to your departure from the United Kingdom, your relocation co-ordinator will have confirmed details such as: Name of vessel, estimated time of arrival and most importantly who will be handling your belongings when the container ship docks at its respective destination port. Atlantic International Movers has an affiliate destination agent in every country. Each of our agents are accredited International Movers who we have personally vetted. The agent will ensure that all of your household furniture and personal belongings are smoothly cleared through customs before being delivered to your new home. On arrival at your new home all your household furniture and personal belongings will be unpacked and placed to your requirements, and all waste materials being removed.

Is there a minimum or maximum volume that can be shipped?

No. Whether your shipment consists of 1 box or a 40ft shipping container, Atlantic International Movers will be happy to provide advice and a quotation to enable to you decide what household furniture and personal belongings you would like to ship.

How do I move to Europe?

For most European destinations Atlantic International Movers will transport your household furniture and personal belongings by road. For other European destinations such as the Greek Islands and Canary Islands, your household furniture and personal belongings will be shipped utilising the “Deep Sea” method, as described above.

Whether your furnishing a holiday home in Spain, looking for the “La Dolce Vita” in Tuscany or relocating with your company a cosmopolitan city such as Paris or Rome, Atlantic International Movers can provide you with a moving solution.

Again, depending on the volume of household furniture and/or personal belongings to be transported, Atlantic International Movers offer both a groupage/part load service or a direct, exclusive vehicle service for larger moves.

What if I need to store my belongings?

Should you need to store your household furniture and personal belongings prior to shipment, or upon arrival at your destination, this can be arranged. It is generally more economical to store in the United Kingdom, rather than overseas, but all of our accredited agents offer storage facilities.

If you are moving to furnished accommodation overseas, or simply have furniture or belongings you do not wish to ship, Atlantic International Movers offer long term storage at preferred rates to customers who fall into either of these categories. An example of someone who may utilize this service, is a customer who is being relocated overseas by their employer on a fixed term contract.
