Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire
Located just forty five miles north-west of London, Milton Keynes is an ideal place for those who seek some tranquillity. Situated in quiet Buckinghamshire, Milton Keynes has lots of attractions, including museums and sports and music venues, with a history dating back to medieval times. The Borough has a population currently estimated to be in excess of 230,000 people and was formally designated a new town on 23rd January 1967.

When the Borough of Milton Keynes was designed, planners envisaged a ‘forest city’. These planners were responsible for millions of trees being planted in a nursery in Newlands and as of 2006, there are twenty million trees in the urban area. The Parks Trust Charity has ensured that these parks haven’t been built on as the area has gradually became more developed.
Milton Keynes is home to the open air National Bowl, which attracts large events such as music concerts and the Milton Keynes Theatre. The town has a public art gallery, a summer camp for young musicians, many music venues to cater for a variety of tastes and two museums including Bletchley Park Museum of Wartime Cryptography and the Milton Keynes Museum. Milton Keynes is home to the national Heart Radio Station and the National Centre for Badminton.

The town was built just north and west of the medieval settlement of Wolverton. There is still much evidence of this community and the Saxon Church of the Holy Trinity (rebuilt in 1819) is still in use. There is also a rigde and furrow pattern of agriculture in nearby fields. So whilst Milton Keynes is a new town, it is historically important as an area.

In addition to being home to the Open University and Cranfield University, many famous people come from and reside in the area. Chris Clarke (English sprinter), Adam Ficek (the drummer from the band, Babyshambles), James Hildreth (cricketer) and Sarah Pinborough (horror stories author) all have or currently do reside in Milton Keynes.
