Nottingham
Nottingham is famous for two things, its links with Robin Hood and its lace-making and bicycle industries which gained worldwide recognition during the industrial revolution. The area officially became a city as part of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations of Queen Victoria in 1897. Today Nottingham is one of the eight English Core Cities Group, although it is one of the smaller cities in the country. The area is very leafy. In 1997, 2001, 2003 and 2007 Nottingham won the Large City category of the Britain in Bloom competition. In addition, in 1998 the area won the Entente Florale Gold Award.

Nottingham hosts the annual Goose Fare in October and is one of the biggest fairs in the country.  For those interested in music, the area is home to many orchestras and Nottingham is known for its alternative rock scene. In addition, the area is home to the GameCity annual videogame festival, as well as one of only twenty remaining Turkish baths in Britain.  Visitors and residents area are also able to see a variety of architectural styles in the city. Buildings dating back to the 1100s and there are many elaborate buildings from, the nineteenth century in particular, still in existence, in Nottingham. 

Nottingham has many museums, theatres, galleries and other sites to see. Nottingham Industrial Museum, Nottingham Transport Heritage Centre, the Galleries of Justice, Green’s Windmill and the New Art Exchange are just a few other attractions which offer an insight into the area’s history and culture. Theatre goers will also enjoy the Nottingham Playhouse, the Theatre Royal, the Nottingham Royal Concert hall and many smaller theatres such as the Lakeside Arts Centre, the Nottingham Arts Theatre and the Lace Market Theatre.

The Nottingham County Cricket Club was made County Champions in 2005 and Nottingham Rugby club are in the championship and located in the area. Indeed, the Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club is a major international cricket venue with a capacity of 17,000 and is very popular. There are several sports clubs in Nottingham. Notts County F.C. and Nottingham Forest F.C., which is the oldest professional football club in the world, are both located in the area.
